9 Best Coffee Shops along the Mississippi Gulf Coast

While the Gulf Coast is most known for its seafood, it also has a thriving coffee culture that’s alive and brewin’! Yep, that’s right…you can be sure to find a good cup of coffee down here in the South.

The last few years, I’ve grown to love coffee. Now, I’m no coffee connoisseur by any means, but I do appreciate “getting coffee” as more than just a quick fix that keeps me going. For me, it’s a wholesome, curated experience that includes coffee shop decor, atmosphere, and of course - the menu.

When I started getting into coffee around 2011, I was your Starbucks Frappuccino kinda girl, and hey…no shame or shade in that. But as the years went by, I began to learn about the luscious latte, dabble in the cappuccinos, and even develop a taste for the matcha tea latte (I even got my mama into it, y’all).

I learned that different milks could make my coffee taste creamier or watery, depending on the type of coffee I ordered. So when I came back to the MS Gulf Coast ten years later, I was surprised and excited to find all of the coffee shops and cafes that’d been built in my absence.

9 Best Coffee Shops along the Mississippi Gulf Coast

1. Jacked Up Coffee Bar - Biloxi, MS

I love love love this coffee shop for many reasons, and have to thank my sister for suggesting it to me. Jacked Up Coffee Bar is a locally owned coffee shop in Biloxi, MS. It’s one of my faves, because yes, the coffee options are great but also because the seating options are just as great. If you want to stay close to the whirring sound of the espresso machine, the main room of the shop has barstools that face towards the main road. Or, if you’d rather sit outside and enjoy the weather, there are chairs and tables right out front with umbrellas to protect you from the sun. The other seating area is on the side of the main room, where there are comfy chairs and tables for individual studying, group meetings, or hangouts.

Delicious Caramel Apple Chai

What to Get: Jacked Up offer a medium and dark roast from the New Orleans’ based coffee company, The French Truck Coffee. The menu covers whatever you need from hot, iced, to blended drinks. They even offer pour over options if you’re into that. My favorite part about their menu is the seasonal flavors, where they offer delicious Rose Vanilla during Valentine’s Day and a wowing Caramel Apple during the Fall. You can add these flavors to just about any of their beverages.

Wanna add a lil’ nip to your coffee? They have an option for you to do just that with their coffee cocktails.

The vibe of Jacked Up is upbeat and buzzing. There are always people coming in and out, being greeted by the friendly and trendy baristas, and dogs are definitely welcome. The music is always on point, especially if you’re into throwbacks from the 70s/80s or if you get down to rock n’ roll.

Strawberry Spinach Salad

And what if you’re hungry and need a bite to eat? Well, they offer a ranging menu of delicious eats that can help you top off your delicious beverage. My favorite is the strawberry spinach salad and their Mediterranean pita pizza.

I highly suggest stoppin’ by this cute lil’ coffee shop, located in a cute lil’ neighborhood surrounded by other locally-owned shops. You might even catch the owner, Dixie, whipping up your favorite drink.

2. Cat Island Coffeehouse - Pass Christian, MS

Cat Island Coffeehouse offers bougie Beauty and the Beast vibes for sure. What do I mean exactly? Cat Island Coffeehouse shares a building with Pass Christian Books… mhmm this means you get books and coffee all in one visit - the dreeeeam, am I right? The coffeehouse is located right off of Hwy 90 and across from the beachfront…so slow down, or you just might miss it!

Yummy matchas with my mama out on the terrace

The coffee shop is surrounded by beautiful flowers, with the beach just in sight. Classical music is played softly from the speakers, while a range of books for youth and adults cover the store from wall to wall. There’s even a winding staircase that leads up to the second floor where books by Mississippi authors are located. I told you…Beauty and the Beast vibes.

The baristas are friendly and patient as you scour their menu. Ask them about the different scones and muffins they offer, as they have a delicious pastry selection. There’s seating upstairs, downstairs, and on the outside terrace where you can enjoy the breeze and watch cars cruise by on the highway below. If you’d rather sit inside, you can still experience ample natural lighting with their very large windows.

The Honey Comb Iced Latte

What to Get: Whether you’re up for a hot or iced caffeinated beverage, Cat Island Coffeehouse has it all. They even offer a variety of tea beverages, which are my favorite here: The London Fog and the Town Greene (a matcha tea latte with a delicious addition of vanilla). Psst..get it with oat milk, to really experience the creaminess.

They even have Golden Milk on the menu, which is a blend of turmeric, honey, and milk. It’s a delicious beverage known for reducing inflammation.

Another of my other favorites from here is the Honey Comb Latte, which has espresso, honey, and milk. It’s also served in a cute bee glass.

If you’re looking to spend some time in the Pass, or near the beach, or even need a day out to get some studying and work done…make sure to visit Cat Island Coffeehouse for some sweet and peaceful library-like vibes.

3. Coast Roast Coffee & Tea - Gulfport, MS

Coast Roast Coffee & Tea is a great spot if you’re needing an easy and straightforward menu that’s affordable. There’s another location in Long Beach, MS and two locations in New Orleans too. This particular location in Gulfport has a drive thru, so if you’re not feeling up for getting out of the car, you can roll right through the drive thru to place and pick up your order.

Coast Roast sells their beans wholesale, so you can brew it up at home, too!

I love this coffee shop because right out front sits a large and fragrant rosemary bush which adds a calming vibe to the bustling of Hwy 49 that runs along the shop. The coffee shop has an open, industrial vibe with its large wooden tables and high ceilings and windows.

The baristas are young, fresh, and friendly and often have indie/alternative music playing loudly on the speakers above. They have a lovely pastry selection, as well - their scones being the eye catcher here. All types of people stop here, from business folks, to elderly groups, from police and firemen, to students. They also have large comfy chairs for you to sink in and enjoy the sun rays through the windows.

What to get: Coast Roast’s cappuccino is delicious and so simple. Add some vanilla syrup to it, and you’ve got a frothy, tasty beverage that you’ll want to last forever. Want something a bit chiller? They’ve also got blended and iced drinks for you to guzzle during the warmer days.

4. Nova Espresso - Mobile, AL

Now, I know I know…I said the MISSISSIPPI Gulf Coast. So why in the world am I listing a coffee shop that’s in Alabama? Hear me out y’all…Nova Espresso is a sweet hidden gem in downtown Mobile and it’s just too darn good and too darn close to Mississippi to not list.

Look at that latte art 😍

Nova Espresso is located on a one-way quiet street in the residential area of downtown Mobile. The white square building with the large patio out front is surrounded by large, green trees and plants. The atmosphere is beautiful, as there’s lots of picnic tables and chairs outside for enjoying the nice breeze and the trees above.

Inside, the vibes are equally beautiful with the signature white walls, chairs, and tables spread out for group study sessions or individual focused study. The baristas have a youthful, hipster type vibe that gives The South x Cali. It can feel a bit intimidating to walk in, but the baristas are helpful when it comes to navigating their menu of ranging drinks and flavors. The music is great here, too, indie/alternative sounds like Coast Roast. There’s another location in Fairhope, AL, however I’ve never been. If you have, let me know what it was like in the comment section below!

These Front Yard tacos are RIDIC and go so well w/ an iced latte

What to Get: There are so many options when it comes to getting coffee here. They offer teas, cold brews, drip, and pour overs. Some of my favorite add-ins to my lattes are honey, lavender, and the bourbon maple syrup!

Another plus to visiting Nova Espresso, is that if you get there before 2pm, you can also hit up the little taco truck out front - Front Yard Tacos. Such a delicious accompaniment to your caffeinated beverage. My favorite go to is the tater tots and B n’ P taco which has sweet potato, sweet maple black beans, and eggs - delish! This is a place you don’t want to overlook. Definitely stop by if you’re looking for cool, trendy vibes in a coffee shop experience.

Have you Visited any of these Gulf Coast coffee shops?

5. Mockingbird Cafe - Bay St. Louis, MS

If you’re looking for a cutesy indoor/outdoor local brunch experience, then Mockingbird Cafe is definitely the place to visit. The cafe is located inside of an old house, which means that the dining area feels just like a big living room. In fact, Mockingbird Cafe is known as the “Living Room of the Bay”.

Outdoor Seating at Mockingbird Cafe

They also have beautiful outdoor seating with bar stools that sit under a tin roof siding to protect you from the brutal summer sun. There are many giant luscious plants that line the tables. You might even spot a little lizard friend checking out your dish like I did during my last visit.

The baristas are friendly and patient here as well, especially with their large and dynamic menu of beverages and meals. The Mockingbird Cafe is situated only two blocks away from the beachfront. So after your meal, maybe stop by and bask on the sand while you digest your food. Or stop at the local shops that surround the cafe - my favorite is The Shops at Century Hall which is right next door to the cafe. Find endless small boutiques and antiques within the three story building!

No, this isn’t coffee…but I had to capture this delicious dish!

What to Get: I love their chicken and waffles, though beware that the price has gone up for this dish by about $3 to $4 - though hasn’t everything? Along with a delicious thick waffle they serve you crispy fried tenders.

If you’re still wanting chicken, but not willing to fork over that amount of money, opt for the Fried Chicken Sandwich which has a delicious sweet sriracha sauce and soft brioche bun.

The coffee options are endless here - I mean really, take your pick. But if you’re feeling adventurous, I recommend trying one of their Health + Beauty teas such as the Purple Potato Latte, Collagen Latte, or even the Golden Turmeric latte. Yep, another shop on the Gulf Coast that offer that delicious Golden Milk. Either way, the atmosphere, food, and drinks will be an experience that you’ll remember.

6. Bright Eyed Brew Co. - Ocean Springs, MS

What if you don’t have time to sit and sip? Maybe you’re just needing a quick in and out coffee shop experience that packs a punch. If so, stop by this cute lil’ shop located in downtown Ocean Springs. Bright Eyed Brew is a family-owned and operated coffee shop with very warm hospitality. They’re also located on the side of a cute B&B, so if you’re from out of town, think about staying here and being close to coffee and the many downtown OS events. Though it’s a very teeny shop, the drinks are immaculate here and the shop is beautifully decorated.

Chillin w/ my Oat Milk Cappuccino

What to Get: Try anything honestly. You’ll taste the difference in this coffee versus your regular degular coffee experience - trust me.

Bright Eyed Brew’s coffee is smooth and tasty, not bitter or acidic. And you don’t have to just get a cold brew because they serve hot drinks as well. So order a cappuccino if you wish, and sit outside and enjoy the laughter of nearby elementary students or shoppers down on Government St.

If you do decide to order a cold brew, know that this shop infuses their coffee with nitrogen. What does that even mean? Basically it means creamy, smooth cold brews for you! Stop by to visit this sweet family business!

7. Greenhouse Biloxi - Biloxi, MS

Greenhouse Biloxi is a one of a kind coffee, tea, beer, and biscuits place. This shop is situated in a hot pink brick building not too far away from Jacked Up Coffee Bar. It’s a beautiful and quaint atmosphere with limited seating and unique decor. Here, you can buy beverages and of course - biscuits.

Delicious biscuit w/ in house made beet hummus and COFFEE!

What to Get: Greenhouse Biloxi has an extensive list of coffees - from a regular black coffee, to lavender lattes, to Golden Milk. Yep, another one ;)

They also have cocktails, beers, teas, and juice. But one thing that distinguishes this coffee shop is its delicious in house made biscuits. I can’t even begin to describe the deliciousness of their biscuits. They’re just so many to choose from, so you’ll have to get over there and try one for yourself! Not a biscuit lover? No worries, they have other options, too i.e breakfast plates, quiches, and toast. Definitely stop by if you’re looking for a unique, one of kind coffee shop experience.

8. Garden House Brew Co - Gautier, MS

Garden House Brew Co is a fairly new addition to the Gulf Coast and is easily accessible for Jackson County folks. This coffee shop is located in a small house-like building right alongside Hwy 90. It has a drive thru which makes it easy to stop by and grab a drink if you’re on a lunch break or headed in to work. The decor inside is very southern, warm, and friendly - and there’s even a sofa for you to recline on as you wait for your beverage. Or maybe you’d rather wait outside while sitting under an umbrella at the picnic table.

Sweet lil’ cafe au lait

What to Get: I really enjoyed their cafe au lait - simple yet sweet and to the point. However, Garden House Brew also offers smoothies and blended drinks for those warm summer days, and even toasted sandwiches if you’re needing a bite to eat alongside your beverage of choice.

If you’re feeling less like coffee, maybe try one of their flavored teas. Either way, it’s definitely worth stopping by and checking out this new coffee scene on the Gulf. Cute, quaint, and welcoming! Checking all the boxes for southern bonafide hospitality, indeed.

9. Grind Coffee & Nosh - Biloxi, MS

I find myself at Grind Coffee & Nosh at least once a month on a Sunday, before or after my recurring therapy sessions. It’s a coffee shop that’s owned and operated by very sweet people, who make an effort to create a cozy, homey, and local atmosphere. There’s even a large fireplace with comfortable sofas to sink and lounge into.

A lil’ cup of love

What to Get: Whatever you choose coffee-wise will be delicious, smooth, and made with love. Just how one likes it. I highly recommend you also try their breakfast sandwiches (I love the croissant option) which pair so lovely with their beverages- and even comes with a side of fruit. Beautiful classical music plays overhead, making you feel like you just might be in one of those rom com movies.

Stop here for a cozy moment on a weekday or weekend. And if you’re in a hurry, and down for the coffee and sandwich but not so much for the lounging, no worries as there’s a drive thru for you to cruise right on into.
